PRECINCT 9 - Digital photograph, 100cm x 140cm
Christophe Canato’s work is a longstanding examination of the male gender identity and sexual orientation in cultural contexts. Belonging, inclusion and rejection was the starting point of his early research.
In his photography, the staged male body expresses ambiguities between form and representation in order to deliver physical and emotional compositions such as idolatry or fantasies.
Canato creates his own universe where the notions of dissimulation, norm and difference broaden the spectrum of his reflection sometime based on symbolism and folklores.
